ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Katherine Raymond was born in 1971 in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. She's lived in both Arizona and California as well. A lifelong love of nature brought her to a degree in 1995 in Horticulture and a career as a landscape designer and horticulturalist. In 2019, a passion for the arts culminated in her receiving a bachelors degree in Visual Arts from Middle Tennessee State University. Her curiosity drives her to experimentation with medium and subject.. Her background laid a foundation for her desire to preserve the land around her through her art and activism. Katherine lives and works out of her home studio in Franklin, Tennessee. ARTIST STATEMENT: The practice of creating is a constant inward and outward dance of peace, urgency, meditation, struggles, accomplishments and contradictions. My goal is to always be moving forward and learn as much as I can from the complexities of being an artist and the fascinating world around me. I am influenced by the American Tonalists, Color Field art, abstract expressionism and the impressionists. My works are always affected in some way by my history, love for nature, and a need to calm the chaos that can brew inside. Currently, my focus has been on the use of oil and cold wax medium and a desire to preserve the land around me through the canvas. This has led me to plein air painting and landscape scenes, whether imagined or real.
